dc.description.abstractEl Cerro de Champán, ubicado en el corregimiento de Champán, municipio de Curumaní, Cesar, representa un escenario natural con potencial para fortalecer el turismo de naturaleza, la conservación ambiental y el desarrollo comunitario. El objetivo del proyecto fue diseñar un plan ecoturístico sostenible para el desarrollo del senderismo en esta zona ambiental, integrando sus recursos naturales, socioculturales y turísticos. La metodología se orientó desde un enfoque cuantitativo y descriptivo, ejecutado mediante un diagnóstico ambiental, sociocultural y turístico; recorridos de campo; encuestas; entrevistas; listas de chequeo; inventario de atractivos; valoración de impactos; estimación de capacidad de carga y zonificación del área. El proceso se desarrolló en tres etapas: primero, la caracterización del cerro y de la comunidad; segundo, la formulación de estrategias de conservación, educación ambiental, promoción turística, infraestructura básica y gobernanza local; y tercero, la socialización de las propuestas con habitantes y actores institucionales. Los resultados evidenciaron que el Cerro de Champán posee condiciones favorables para actividades de senderismo, avistamiento, interpretación ambiental y reconocimiento cultural. No obstante, se identificaron impactos negativos asociados a la saturación de visitantes, compactación del suelo, alteración de la cobertura vegetal y perturbación de fauna, por lo que se propone un uso público controlado. Asimismo, se estimó una capacidad de carga turística de 280 visitantes diarios, sujeta al mejoramiento de infraestructura, señalización y manejo. En conclusión, el plan ecoturístico constituye una alternativa sostenible para conservar el ecosistema, fortalecer el sentido de pertenencia, dinamizar la economía local y mejorar la calidad de vida comunitaria, de manera organizada y responsable. Abstract Champán Hill, located in the Champán district of the municipality of Curumaní, Cesar, represents a natural setting with potential to strengthen nature tourism, environmental conservation, and community development. The project's objective was to design a sustainable ecotourism plan for the development of hiking in this environmental area, integrating its natural, sociocultural, and tourism resources. The methodology was based on a quantitative and descriptive approach, implemented through an environmental, sociocultural, and tourism assessment; field visits; surveys; interviews; checklists; an inventory of attractions; an impact assessment; an estimation of carrying capacity; and area zoning. The process was developed in three stages: first, the characterization of the hill and the community; second, the formulation of strategies for conservation, environmental education, tourism promotion, basic infrastructure, and local governance; and third, the dissemination of the proposals to residents and institutional stakeholders. The results demonstrated that Champán Hill possesses favorable conditions for hiking, wildlife viewing, environmental interpretation, and cultural appreciation. However, negative impacts associated with visitor saturation, soil compaction, alteration of vegetation cover, and disturbance of wildlife were identified, therefore a controlled public use is proposed. A tourist carrying capacity of 280 visitors per day was estimated, subject to improvements in infrastructure, signage, and management. In conclusion, the ecotourism plan constitutes a sustainable alternative for conserving the ecosystem, strengthening a sense of belonging, boosting the local economy, and improving the quality of life for the community, in an organized and responsible manner.
