Abstract The objective of this study was to identify risk factors associated with suicidal ideation among fifth-, sixth-, and seventh-semester nursing students at the Universidad Popular del Cesar in Valledupar. The study employed a quantitative approach, a non-experimental, cross-sectional design, and an analytical scope, with a census sample of 69 students. To collect data, a questionnaire covering sociodemographic, academic, and mental health variables was administered, supplemented by the Positive and Negative Suicidal Ideation Scale (PANSI). The results revealed the presence of suicidal thoughts in 31.9% of the participants. Bivariate analysis identified significant associations with loss of interest, traumatic events, a history of self-harm, support system, and support received. Based on these findings, the Comprehensive Health Education Plan (PESI) is proposed, aimed at strengthening protective factors and promoting timely care for students in vulnerable situations. It is concluded that suicidal ideation is primarily related to emotional and psychosocial factors, highlighting the need to strengthen institutional strategies for prevention, early detection, and mental health support.
